-Why did you choose this quote?
-What does this quote mean to you?
-What thoughts does it provoke?
The quote I chose really spoke to me. It was, "The job of a poet is to reveal the true beauty of small things we take for granted." I think the reason I chose this quote was because I definitely agree. We never stop and realize that it's the small things in life that mean the most. For example, I never really watched the sky because I was more concerned with things in front of me. Now, I look at sunsets in awe and get carried away watching beautiful clouds as they pass by forming shapes created by my imagination. This quote also makes me think about a question I once asked my teacher in slam poetry. I asked him, "Who came up with the idea of describing little things in life with such emphasis?" Like instead of saying "I cried," a poet would say something like, "Tears crept down my cheeks anxiously in a rush to meet my chin." My teacher's reply was simply "I don't know." I still strive to find the answer to that question.
