During my time in Andrew's class I did a lot of experiments that were actually fun. The class was structured differently from any classes I've been in during highschool. I expected for the class to be dull and boring with a teacher that rambles on and on while we take notes, but this class was different. We were given so much freedom that at first I didn't know what to do. There were so many experiments that I didn't even know where to start! My first experiment ended up being about ice cream, which I thought was AWESOME! It was one of the many experiments that I did out of curiosity which included my candle experiment, the bath bomb experiment, the bouncy ball experiment, and more. However as the semester progressed, I found myself doing more projects for the points instead of doing them for curiosity, and I hated that. Every time I picked a project, I made sure that it was worth 50pts. I felt like I didn't have time to do experiments that were fun and started to do more worksheets. However I think that no matter how much we want to do fun things, we have to suck it up and do things that aren't so fun as well. This class was really fun but there were also times where getting points was the main focus. I think my job will be similar to my experience in this class. I will make sure to choose a job that is fun and enjoyable, but no matter what there will always be things within each job that are unexciting. Like paperwork for example. All in all this was such a unique class. I haven't done fun experiments like this since when I was in 6th grade. My 6th grade science teacher was Mr. Ellington, and he was everyone's favorite teacher. I had been going to his lab and doing awesome experiments since I was in first grade. We made our own soda, glow in the dark paint, 3D glasses, and even disected squids and frogs! Since it was my last year in his class he told me to make the best of it because every other science class in middle school and high school would be boring and not as hands on as his class was. And sure enough he was right. All of my science classes after that were boring, except for this class. Even after independent experimenting was over, I still think of experiments I could do. I'm so thankful to have been in this class, it was by far my most favorite class since I came to High Tech High. Even Brian Delgado couldn't stay away from this class. Thanks for everything Andrew, you showed me that I can do or make anything if I set my mind to it.
It sounds corny but I mean it. :) )
